Around Dubai

Roaming Around the Streets of Dubai

If you are a tourist or new in Dubai, the next thing you have to do, after exchanging your money to Dirhams (UAE currency), is to get a copy of your passport and visa because you shouldn't leave the house without it.

The security in Dubai is pretty tight and a Dubai police might ask you for identification any time so it is better to be prepared. Plus, you will need it to purchase a sim card card for your phone.

There are 2 mobile service providers in Dubai, Etisalat and Du. You are required to submit a copy of your passport and visa before you can obtain a sim card. This is one of the reasons why it is very safe to live in Dubai. You cannot keep your animosity if you own a phone.

Ways to Travel
Taxi
The easiest way to go around Dubai is by taxi. Most of the drivers are friendly and know how to speak English.

If you don't want to wait outside for a cab, you can book one online or call their hotline (+971 4) 2080808.

Bus
Riding a bus is also a convenient way of traveling in Dubai. Because of severe heat during the summer, most bus stops in Dubai are air-conditioned. All the buses have air-conditioning too. If you don't know where a certain bus is going to, you can check the bus routes that are usually indicated on the bus stops or you can download the bus routes here.

For emergencies you can also contact the RTA (Roads & Transport Authority) call center 8009090
